April Adoption Round Up!

April has been a great month for our Waggytails! TWENTY dogs and FOUR cats found their forever homes!! Sorrin, Shorty, Evie, Luke, Lucky, Ombre, Reesie, Little Bit, Roxy, Calista, Tate, Felix, Willie, Ponygirl, Moon, Rosie,Casper, Georgie, Hootie, Kateland, Rico, Mama, Stripe and Mango all have been adopted! April also saw the launch of two new collaborations for us, allowing us to exapnd our reach in order to rehome needy dogs from across the USA. Waggy West, funded by generous donations from members of the public (THANK YOU!!), is enabling us to pull at-risk dogs from seriously overcrowded shelters in LA, get them vetted and flown to New York for rehoming! SHADOW! Waggy Graduate of the Week!

From Shadow's new new family: "I adopted Shadow in November from Waggytails. Our cat Dean has taken a liking to him and they have become nap buddies. Dean usually is slow to warm up to new friends, but he has made an exception with Shadow. We love Shadow very much. At first he was skittish and tried to escape from his harness, now he is loving and friendly and super excited to be with us." Best Friend's Society NYC Super Adoption SUCCESS!

Waggytail Rescue had an amazing three days in The Altman Building in NYC last weekend! So many of our pups met their forever families! Huge thanks go to Best Friends Society, our amazing volunteers who stayed with our pups and handled adoption applications, and our fosters who brought animals to the event! SIX of our pups were adopted! Moon was adopted by a lovely lady who told us that Moon was a perfect mix of all her favorite breeds! HARPER! Waggy Graduate of the Week!

We are starting a new feature on the Waggy blog - a weekly catch up with one of our alumni! The first Waggy Graduate we'd like to share is Harper (formerly Sissy) who was adopted in October 2014 as a teeny tiny puppy! Casper wins the Kentucky Derpy!

Casper stole the show and many hearts at today's Kentucky Derpy event hosted by Bark Box! He was the star of the show, charming everyone with his calm disposition and sweet nature. He even caught the eye of Susie's Senior Dogs and has been featured on their Facebook page! He also got to meet the fabulous Chole Kardoggian, who shared his cute little face with all her Instagram followers! We are SO GRATEFUL for everyone who has shared Casper's story today and helped get him noticed. We are very excited by the number of people who were excited to meet him and we hope to find him his forever family soon! 25 Waggies of the Week?!

This week started with exciting news that, through the hard work of our volunteers, Waggytail has forged a connection with a Texas based rescue charity in order to rehome as many abandoned former puppy mill breeding dogs as posible. We are aiming to find homes for 25 dogs, 18 Chihuahuas, 6 Yorkies and 1 Havanesse. Transportation is ready we just need fosters here in NYC in place for April 25th to care for them! Kentucky Derpy!

On your marks, get set... DERP! BarkBox is hosting the First Annual Kentucky Derpy in Brooklyn this Sunday April 19th! It's a celebration of goofy, wacky looking dogs and a chance for the people who love them to meet some of the derpiest stars of instagram. Two of our lovliest a-DERP-tables, Casper and Ponygirl, have been invited along to show the cute and derpy face of of animal rescue! Here's hoping they find their forever homes at the Derpy!

LITTLE BIT! Waggy of the Week!

Little Bit is an affectionate, playful Italian Greyhound mix who is proving herslef to be a great big city dog! She is about 8 years old, housebroken and leash trained, and gets on well with other dogs. Where he personality really shines is in her interaction with people! She LOVES people, and is very affectionate with them. Super Adoption Event April 24th-26th!

We excited to announce that Waggytail Rescue will be attending all three days of the Best Friends Animal Society spring Super Adoption Event! The event will be held from April 24th-26th at The Altman Building, 135 W. 18th St., NYC. We would gladly appreciate volunteers to help us supervise our dogs during this time! PEPE! Waggy of the Week!

Pepe (formerly known a Sir Corey) is a 7 year old, 9 pound, Chihuahua. His foster mom describes him as a loving, gentle little boy who would make an amazing service dog! Pepe loves to curl up on laps to sleep, and is generally very happy following his people around. He is learning commands such as "sit, stay and belly" and is fully housebroken. He walks well on the leash and gets along great with dogs (and cats!) his own size, but is a little wary of bigger dogs. Pepe is working on conquering his separation anxiety. March Adoption Roundup!

This month saw some big adoption news, Egypt was adopted! She has been with us since spring last year and finally found her new home! We couldn't be happier for AJ, Leila, Zoe, Lucy, Dora, Tahoe, Egypt and Basil! If you are able, please consider DONATING to Waggytail Rescue to help us continue to rescue as many wonderful dogs as possible. AJ - now Bones, is happily being smothered in kisses! Leila is having a wonderful time getting all the hugs from her new family :) Zoe is the center of attention in her new family! And Dora? She's living the big city life :)
