Preparing For Our Upcoming Mission

Once a year, we go the distance—literally. We are officially preparing to head West to rescue a van full of dogs whose only hope for a future depends on a ride to New York City (NYC).

For many dogs on the West Coast, the only thing standing between them and a new life is a long stretch of highway. Once a year, we bridge that gap, transporting a van full of hopeful pups to the foster homes and forever families waiting for them in NYC.

Soon, we’re heading to California to meet our 2026 rescues from Born Again Animal Rescue, and we need you in our passenger seat. Whether you foster, fundraise, or sponsor, you are the fuel that brings them home.

Our Journey and Impact

Our Journey and Impact

From coordinating with Flight Angels, who chaperoned our Waggytails in-cabin, to organizing small groups of dogs flying cargo, every transport has been a labor of love. One of our most challenging feats is always coordinating the transport of a van full of homeless dogs from the West Coast all the way to New York City.

Our small but mighty Waggytail team is always up for the challenge! Seeing the dogs arrive safe and sound, watching them transition from scared strays to beloved family members, is heartwarming and it’s  fueled our determination to keep going.  Each year, our transports become more efficient, organized, and successful!

We have rescued and transported over 500 West Coast Waggytails to date. Through our partnership with Born Again Animal Rescue in San Diego, and collaborations with many independent rescuers across Southern California and Mexico, we've given second chances to countless animals. Each time we clear space in a shelter or foster home, we make room for more pups in need.

Financial Challenge

The Financial Challenge & Why We Need Your Support

Saving lives comes with a cost. Each rescue dog requires veterinary care—including microchipping, spaying/neutering, core vaccinations, heartworm tests, and parvo/distemper screenings—which averages $165 per healthy animal. Dogs with medical conditions or injuries often require significantly more, and yet, we never turn them away.

Additionally, transporting each dog costs about $140. That’s why we are aiming to raise $25,000 to fund our 2026 West Coast Transport and continue giving at-risk dogs the second chance they deserve.

How You Can Help

We are aiming to raise $25,000 to fund our 2026 West Coast Transport. Your support can make all the difference. Here’s how you can help:

Donate Directly – Every dollar brings a pup closer to safety. Whether it’s $10 or $1,000, your contribution goes directly toward medical and transport costs. Donate Now

Contribute Vital Supplies – Ship priority items directly to our volunteers for the long journey and the big arrival. Shop our Amazon & Chewy Wishlists.

Foster a Traveler – Every seat on that van needs a destination. By opening your home on February 28, you save a life. Apply to Foster

Spread the Word – Amplify our reach! Share our mission on social media, tag @waggytailrescue, and use #SaveAWaggytail.

Start a Fundraising Team – Rally with your friends, family, or coworkers! Compete to see who can raise the most for the pups. It’s the most impactful way to help us hit our $25,000 mark. Create a Team

Support an Existing Team – Know someone already fundraising? Give them a boost and help their team reach their milestone!
